R&D Purification Senior Scientist Slough, United Kingdom 12 Month Fixed Term Contract Join a cutting-edge R&D team at Lonza, where you will help advance next-generation purification technologies. This is an exciting laboratory-based role ( on site 5 days a week) focused on developing and optimising downstream processes that will shape the future of biologics manufacturing.

What you will do

  • Design and execute laboratory-scale purification and primary recovery studies to support process and technology development
  • Perform chromatography and filtration experiments, analysing complex datasets to generate meaningful insights
  • Evaluate and optimise primary recovery technologies to improve process efficiency and performance
  • Contribute to the assessment and implementation of emerging downstream processing technologies
  • Deliver high-quality technical reports, documentation, and scientific recommendations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Analytical, Upstream, and Manufacturing Science & Technology
  • Maintain high standards of data integrity, safety, and laboratory organisation while supporting continuous improvement initiatives

What we are looking for

  • A degree in Biotechnology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline (postgraduate qualification advantageous)
  • Practical laboratory experience in downstream processing, including chromatography and filtration techniques
  • Strong data analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex datasets and draw clear conclusions
  • Knowledge of DSP unit operations, including process optimisation and troubleshooting
  • Ability to design experiments and apply scientific principles to solve technical challenges
  • Strong communication and report-writing skills, with attention to detail and quality
