Job Title: EMEA Business Development Specialist Location: UK Travel: Up to 50% Working Pattern: Fully Remote

As a Business Development Specialist, you will play a key role in identifying and developing new business opportunities across key biotech hubs in the EMEA region.

Working closely with Business Development Managers, technical experts, and market intelligence teams, you will engage with innovative biotech companies, build new customer relationships, and introduce Lonza's industry-leading Integrated Biologics capabilities.

This role is ideal for an ambitious commercial professional who enjoys combining science, business, and relationship-building.

You will be responsible for prospecting, lead generation, and opportunity qualification, helping to connect emerging biotech companies with the development and manufacturing expertise they need to turn groundbreaking ideas into life-changing therapies.

By leveraging market intelligence, industry-leading prospecting tools, and direct customer engagement, you will help generate high-quality business opportunities, support regional growth initiatives, and contribute directly to the continued success of one of the world's leading CDMOs.

What you will do

  • Conduct detailed market and company research to identify and qualify potential target customers, leveraging insights from Market Intelligence teams.
  • Proactively engage prospective customers, partners, and consultants through a variety of outreach channels to build and develop new business relationships.
  • Manage and nurture inbound leads generated through marketing campaigns, ensuring timely and effective follow-up.
  • Qualify prospects and convert them into sales-ready opportunities, supporting a seamless handover to Business Development Managers.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including Technical Sales, Commercial Development, and Licensing teams, to align customer needs with technology offerings and value propositions.
  • Support the planning and execution of industry conferences, exhibitions, and events, including booth representation and customer engagement activities.
  • Utilise industry-leading prospecting and lead generation platforms such as Linked In Sales Navigator, Zymewire, Pharma Targeting, and other market intelligence tools to identify and develop new business opportunities.
  • Maintain accurate records of prospecting activities, customer interactions, and pipeline opportunities within CRM systems.

What we are looking for

  • Degree-qualified in a Life Sciences discipline such as Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field, or possess equivalent industry experience.
  • Proven experience (2 to 3+ years) in business development, sales, lead generation, or commercial roles within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or CDMO sector.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; additional language capabilities are advantageous.
  • Knowledge of the drug development lifecycle and pharmaceutical industry, or the ability to rapidly develop expertise in complex scientific and technical areas.
  • Experience using CRM platforms, ideally Salesforce. com, to manage pipelines, customer interactions, and business development activities.
