We are currently searching for a Site Manager who specialises in Earthworks to join a specialist contractor on a project in Milton Keynes. The project is a civil engineering scheme in which this contractor is tasked with the cut & fill, excavation, deep drainage, stabilisation and FRC. Package value: £6m.

As Earthworks Manager you will be responsible for:

  • Managing day-to-day earthworks operations, ensuring cut & fill activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in line with programme requirements.
  • Supervising site teams, subcontractors and plant operations, coordinating labour and resources across bulk excavation and remediation works.
  • Overseeing all earthworks activities, including stripping, excavation, fill placement, capping layers, haul roads and formation preparation.
  • Monitoring levels, volumes and progress, working closely with Engineers and Surveyors to ensure works meet design tolerances and specifications.
  • Managing programme and sequencing of works, ensuring efficient movement of materials and utilisation of plant across site.
  • Ensuring compliance with HSEQ standards, implementing RAMS and maintaining safe working practices around heavy plant operations.
  • Overseeing testing and QA procedures, including compaction testing, moisture control and verification of formation levels.
  • Liaising with the client, main contractor and technical teams, resolving site issues and coordinating inspections and approvals.
  • Managing site logistics and environmental controls, including dust suppression, haul routes and waste/material management.
  • Maintaining accurate site records and reporting, including progress updates, plant utilisation and QA documentation.

Experience Required:

  • Proven experience managing bulk earthworks or cut & fill operations within civil engineering or groundworks environments.
  • Strong understanding of earthworks sequencing, plant operations and material management across large-scale sites.
  • Experience managing site teams, subcontractors and heavy plant, driving productivity and programme delivery.
  • Good knowledge of HSEQ, QA and testing procedures, including compaction, formation and earthworks compliance standards.
  • SMSTS, First Aid and CSCS.
