Project Manager – Roadworks and Civil Engineering

Location: Leiston, Suffolk Contract: Temporary to Permanent Rate: Up to £350 per day Project Value: Approximately £6 million

We are currently recruiting an experienced Project Manager to join an established civil engineering and earthworks contractor based in Ipswich.

The successful candidate will oversee approximately £6 million of roadworks near Leiston, including highways, drainage, earthworks and associated infrastructure works.

The Project Manager will take overall responsibility for the successful delivery of the project, ensuring works are completed safely, on programme, within budget and to the required quality standards.

  • Role and Responsibilities
  • Take overall responsibility for the planning, management and delivery of the roadworks project.
  • Manage highways, drainage, earthworks and associated civil engineering works.
  • Develop and monitor the construction programme, identifying risks and implementing solutions to prevent delays.
  • Manage site teams, subcontractors, engineers, plant and materials.
  • Ensure the project is delivered safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.
  • Monitor project costs, valuations, variations and commercial performance.
  • Chair progress meetings and provide regular updates to clients and senior management.
  • Liaise with clients, consultants, local authorities, utilities and other key stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety procedures, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Oversee quality assurance, inspections, testing and project documentation.
  • Coordinate traffic management, site logistics, deliveries and plant movements.
  • Ensure all works comply with approved drawings, specifications and relevant highways standards.
  • Support and manage the Site Manager and wider project delivery team.

Requirements

  • Proven experience working as a Project Manager on roadworks, highways or civil engineering projects.
  • Strong experience delivering projects of a similar value and complexity.
  • Good knowledge of highways construction, drainage, earthworks and traffic management.
  • Experience managing project programmes, budgets, subcontractors and site teams.
  • Strong commercial awareness and experience managing variations and project costs.
  • Confident reading construction drawings, specifications and programmes.
  • Excellent leadership, communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Valid SMSTS qualification.
  • Valid CSCS card.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Temporary Works Coordinator qualification would be advantageous.
  • Degree or HNC/HND in Civil Engineering or Construction Management would be beneficial.
