Setting Out Engineer in England

About the Role

Our client, a well-established construction, and earthworks contractor, is seeking a skilled Setting Out Engineer to join their growing team.

This role is crucial in ensuring accuracy and efficiency across a variety of civil engineering, demolition, and groundworks projects. The ideal candidate will have a solid technical background, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced site environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Set out, level, and survey construction and demolition sites using GPS, total stations, and other instruments.
• Interpret and work from construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
• Liaise with site managers, project engineers, and subcontractors to ensure works are carried out to design and quality standards.
• Conduct regular checks on setting out points and benchmarks to maintain accuracy.
• Ensure all site work complies with company health, safety, and environmental standards.
• Maintain accurate site records, as-built drawings, and quality assurance documentation.
• Assist with material take-offs, quantity checks, and progress reports.
• Support the preparation of risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
• Coordinate site surveys and report any design or technical issues promptly.
• Provide technical guidance to site teams and ensure works are executed safely and efficiently.

Key Skills

• Excellent technical and mathematical ability.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• High attention to detail and commitment to quality assurance.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and site data accurately.
• Competent in using Trimble, Leica, or Topcon surveying equipment.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
• Strong understanding of site safety standards and CDM regulations.

Experience & Qualifications

• Minimum 3–5 years’ experience as a Setting Out Engineer or Site Engineer within construction, civil engineering, or earthworks.
• Experience working on demolition, earthworks, or groundworks projects preferred.
• HNC / HND or Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• Valid CSCS card essential.
• SSSTS or SMSTS and First Aid at Work certificates desirable.
• Full UK driving licence required.

Salary

£50,000 – £60,000 DOE
