We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Construction Yard Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our clients busy construction and plant yard. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing yard activities, supervising operatives, and ensuring the efficient organisation, storage, and distribution of construction materials, plant, and equipment to support site operations.
This role requires a strong understanding of construction site logistics, plant management, and health & safety compliance, ensuring materials and equipment are available, maintained, and dispatched efficiently to project sites.
Duties- Oversee all construction yard operations, including the storage, organisation, and dispatch of plant, tools, and building materials.
- Manage the loading and unloading of construction materials, plant machinery, and equipment for delivery to and from project sites.
- Supervise yard operatives, drivers, and labourers, ensuring work is carried out safely and efficiently.
- Coordinate deliveries, collections, and transport schedules to support ongoing construction projects.
- Maintain accurate records of plant, tools, and material inventory, ensuring equipment is tracked and available when required.
- Ensure plant and equipment are checked, maintained, and ready for site use, reporting any faults or damage.
- Operate or supervise the operation of forklifts, telehandlers, or other yard equipment in line with safety regulations.
- Enforce construction health and safety standards, carrying out regular yard inspections and ensuring compliance with company procedures.
- Work closely with site managers, project teams, and suppliers to ensure materials and equipment are delivered on time.
- Identify opportunities to improve yard organisation, plant utilisation, and operational efficiency.
- Proven experience working in a construction yard, plant yard, or building materials depot.
- Previous experience supervising yard operatives or construction support staff.
- Strong understanding of construction materials, plant equipment, and site logistics.
- Experience coordinating deliveries, collections, and distribution of materials to construction sites.
- Forklift or plant operation experience (certification preferred).
- Good knowledge of construction health and safety regulations and site procedures.
- Strong organisational and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Previous experience working within a construction contractor, civil engineering company, or plant hire environment will be highly advantageous.
