The predicted salary is between 13 - 16 £ per hour.

We are looking for a part-time Receptionist (20 hours per week) to join our small front-office team. Shifts cover up to 10 hours per day with a 1-hour lunch break. Pay is pro-rata and will depend on the number of hours worked.

Main duties of the job

  • Greet, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective manner.
  • Provide general assistance to the wider practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person, online or via the telephone.
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
  • Receive patients, consulting with members of the Practice team.
  • Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with Practice guidelines.

Longtown Medical Practice has a practice population of just over 3,800 patients. We are a small and friendly team working in a supportive environment.

Job responsibilities

  • Reception
  • Deal with all general enquiries, explain procedures and make new and follow-up appointments.
  • Receive patients, consulting with members of the Practice team.
  • Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with Practice guidelines.
  • Information Technology
    • Registrations of new patients, computer data entry and medical records.
    • Process patient changes of address, computer data and medical records.
    • Have knowledge of the Practice clinical system (EMIS). Training will be provided as required.
  • Other tasks
    • Open up building in the morning and close building in the evening.
    • Ensure building security; have thorough knowledge of doors/windows and alarm.
    • Any other tasks allocated by managers.

    Person Specification

    Skills

    • Verbal communication skills; ability to deal with people in person and on the telephone.
    • Clinical software skills (EMIS).

    Qualifications

    • Good general secondary education - educated to at least GCSE level standard.
    • Educated to NVQ level in a relevant field.

    Experience

    • Experience of working directly with members of the public in a busy office environment.
    • Experience of answering telephone calls in a high call-volume environment.
    • Experience of setting up general office administrative systems / working in an administrative office environment.
    • Experience of working as part of a team.
    • Experience of working in a GP practice or similar environment.
