Hopetown is a new narrative-first RPG inspired by Disco Elysium, built by a team that worked on Disco Elysium. We are currently moving into early production, building out the foundational systems, characters, and mechanics that will define the experience. With your help, we can transform Hopetown from a great cRPG into an unforgettable one — a living, breathing universe of stories, surprises, and challenges.
Longdue is a studio founded to create rich, emotional, story-first games that challenge players' expectations. We are a remote team of writers, artists, designers, and engineers, bringing together talent from across the industry to push the boundaries of narrative-driven RPGs. We believe that extraordinary games can come from small, focused teams that value creativity, openness, and care over convention.
We are seeking a talented Writer to help craft an immersive, multi-layered RPG experience for our computer RPG in its early stages. The gameplay will focus on dialogue choices, character interactions, and a branching story where every decision has consequences. You will be responsible for creating narrative content that combines psychological depth, philosophical musings, and a richly evocative world that brings player choices to life.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Write compelling dialogue and narrative events that deepen the connection between characters and the world.
- Develop a rich story that explores the interplay between the physical environment and the protagonist's mental journey.
- Contribute to building a universe awash in contrasts, where environments from two interconnected worlds reflect each other in direct and mysterious ways.
- Collaborate with designers, artists, programmers, and your colleagues in narrative to ensure that the story is deeply integrated with gameplay, emphasising role-play and skill-based checks inspired by TTRPG mechanics.
MUST-HAVE REQUIREMENTS
- Proven Writing Experience: You have written for narrative-driven games (ideally RPGs) and have led or significantly contributed to story development on a shipped or in-development title.
- Narrative Depth: You can craft complex characters, nuanced dialogue, and emotionally resonant themes that explore the human experience.
- World-Building Chops: You have built rich, interconnected worlds that reflect character psychology and narrative arcs.
- Collaborative and Hands-On: You are comfortable switching between writing, reviewing, and brainstorming — and you thrive in a small, collaborative team.
- Passion for Narrative-Heavy Games: You love story-rich games and understand how gameplay and narrative work together.
NICE TO HAVE
- Familiarity with TTRPG-inspired systems — from dialogue choices and branching paths to skill checks and dice rolls.
- Experience writing psychological, philosophical, or thematically ambitious stories.
- A background in screenwriting, creative writing, or interactive fiction.
- Comfort with early-stage, exploratory development (prototyping, world-shaping, experimenting).
WHY JOIN US
- Creative Freedom: We foster an environment where your unique voice and vision can shape a groundbreaking RPG.
- Thought-Provoking Project: Help create a game that challenges conventions, offers a deep philosophical experience, and invites players to explore not only a mysterious world but also the depths of the human psyche.
- Flexible Working: We are a remote-first studio, offering you the freedom to work from wherever inspiration strikes.
