A Primary School in the BS14 area of South Bristol is seeking a Teaching Assistant to work 1 to 1 with a Reception pupil who has ASD needs. This School is part of a large School Trust who aspire to treat everyone inclusively and provide a holistic approach to their curriculum. The staff create a happy, stimulating and caring learning environment where children are encouraged to challenge themselves and take risks.

The Role

You will have the opportunity to work closely with the SENDCo and Class Teacher to support a single pupil in the reception class. Starting from September, you will be expected to build a strong relationship with this pupil and work collaboratively with other staff members if there is required support with other pupils too.

The Head Teacher is looking for a candidate who is caring and enthusiastic, and someone who can empower and engage creativity for the pupil through their learning. You will be expected to:

  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher to assess development.
  • Have high expectations for the individual to succeed.
  • Assist with lesson planning and classroom preparation.
  • Create a stimulating and purposeful environment.
  • Be flexible and adapt activities based on the pupils' needs and emotional feelings.
  • Report on pupils' progress and concerns, and liaise with other School staff to ensure pupils' needs are met.
