Long Term Futures is seeking an experienced and passionate SENCO to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Derby. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated SEND professional to lead the school's provision for pupils with additional needs and play a key role in shaping an inclusive learning environment where every child can thrive.
The successful candidate will work closely with school leaders, teaching staff, families and external agencies to ensure that pupils with SEND receive the support, interventions and opportunities they need to achieve their full potential.
About the RoleAs SENCO, you will lead and coordinate SEND provision across the school, ensuring statutory responsibilities are met and high-quality support is delivered consistently. Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and developing the school's SEND strategy and provision
- Managing the identification, assessment and monitoring of pupils with SEND
- Coordinating and reviewing EHCPs, SEND Support Plans and intervention programmes
- Providing guidance and training to teaching and support staff
- Working closely with parents, carers and external agencies
- Monitoring the impact of interventions and SEND provision across the school
- Supporting teachers with differentiation and inclusive classroom practice
- Ensuring compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and relevant legislation
- Contributing to safeguarding, inclusion and pupil wellbeing initiatives
This role requires a strategic thinker who can combine strong leadership with a child‑centred approach.
Ideal Candidate Profile- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) – essential
- National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or willingness to complete
- Previous experience leading or supporting SEND provision
- Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes
- Experience working with a range of needs including ASD, ADHD, SEMH, Speech & Language and Complex Needs
- Excellent communication, leadership and organisational skills
- Passionate about inclusion and improving outcomes for pupils with SEND
