Year 2 SEN Teaching Assistant

- Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 3:30pm
The Opportunity
Long Term Futures are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Year 1 SEN Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming two-form entry primary school in the Redditch area from September 2026. This is a full-time 1:1 role supporting a pupil currently in Year 2, who accesses learning within the Year 1 classroom due to their individual needs. The pupil has Autism (ASD), is mostly non-verbal, and requires patient, consistent support to access learning, develop communication skills, and engage positively throughout the school day. The school offers a highly supportive environment, with experienced staff and an inclusive ethos centred around helping every child achieve their full potential.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support tailored to the pupil's individual learning and communication needs
- Adapt classroom activities to enable the pupil to access the Year 1 curriculum at an appropriate level
- Support communication through visual strategies and other appropriate communication approaches
- Encourage engagement, independence, and positive interactions throughout the school day
- Implement structured routines to provide consistency and reduce anxiety
- Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to support pupil progress
- Promote emotional regulation, wellbeing, and inclusion through a calm and nurturing approach
Requirements
- Previous experience supporting children with SEN within a primary school setting
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism (ASD), particularly non-verbal or minimally verbal children
- Confident providing dedicated 1:1 support
- Understanding of strategies that support communication, sensory regulation, and emotional development
- Experience using Makaton, PECS, Visual Timetables, Now & Next Boards, or similar communication strategies is highly desirable
- Patient, resilient, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with school staff and external professionals
