Long Term Futures are recruiting for a Specialist Teaching & Learning Assistant to join a small Alternative Provision in Burton upon Trent (DE14). Supporting pupils who have struggled to access mainstream education, you will provide academic, emotional, and practical support both inside and outside the classroom, helping learners build confidence, develop positive behaviours, and re‑engage with education within a nurturing and structured environment.

About the Role

  • Provide tailored one‑to‑one and small group support for learners with behavioural and SEMH needs
  • Support pupils who have been excluded from mainstream schools to re‑engage with learning
  • Help create a safe, inclusive, and structured environment that promotes emotional regulation and positive behaviour
  • Support learners’ academic progress while developing confidence, resilience, and independence
  • Assist pupils during practical and outdoor learning activities, helping them engage safely and positively
  • Contribute to behaviour management strategies and positive intervention approaches across the provision

About You

  • Primary school experience would be highly beneficial
  • Experience supporting young people with additional needs, behavioural challenges, or SEMH needs
  • You must have a full driving licence and be willing to obtain business insurance
  • Must be physically fit and confident supporting children during practical and outdoor activities
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to build positive, trusting relationships
  • A calm, patient, and adaptable approach to supporting young people
  • A genuine passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve success
