Long Term Futures is seeking a dedicated and resilient Behavioural Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming secondary school in South Birmingham. This is a rewarding opportunity to work within the school's inclusion provision, supporting pupils who require additional behavioural and pastoral support to successfully reintegrate into mainstream education.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives on building positive relationships, remains calm in challenging situations, and is passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
About the Role
Working closely with teaching staff, the inclusion team, and senior leaders, your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
- Providing targeted 1:1 and small group support for pupils within the school's inclusion provision
- Supporting pupils with behavioural, social, and emotional needs to successfully reintegrate into mainstream lessons
- Building strong, trusting relationships while maintaining clear boundaries and high expectations
- Managing and de-escalating challenging behaviour using restorative and positive behaviour management strategies
- Encouraging positive choices, resilience, and engagement with learning
- Supporting pupils to develop emotional regulation and effective coping strategies
- Monitoring pupil behaviour, attendance, and progress, providing regular feedback to relevant staff
- Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure the best outcomes for pupils
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience working with secondary-aged pupils in a school, alternative provision, youth work, or a similar setting
- Strong behaviour management and de-escalation skills
- Calm, patient, and resilient, with the ability to remain composed under pressure
- Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to earn pupils' trust while maintaining professionalism
- Confident working with pupils who present challenging behaviour
- Reliable, proactive, and committed to making a positive impact
- Passionate about supporting young people to overcome barriers and achieve their full potential
