The Opportunity

Long Term Futures is looking for a compassionate and dedicated SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive secondary SEND provision in the Wandsworth (SW17) area. The school supports pupils with a range of complex learning needs, including Autism, physical disabilities, and communication difficulties. The successful candidate must be comfortable providing personal care, as this is an essential part of supporting pupils’ wellbeing and independence. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone committed to helping young people thrive in a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for secondary‑aged pupils with SEND
  • Assist with personal care, including hygiene routines and mobility support
  • Implement strategies to support behavioural, communication and sensory needs
  • Help create a safe, structured and engaging learning environment
  • Support teachers with adapted resources, interventions and individual support plans
  • Build positive, trusting relationships with pupils, staff and families

Requirements

  • Experience supporting pupils with SEND in a school or care environment
  • Ability and willingness to carry out personal care responsibilities
  • Strong communication and behaviour–management skills
  • Patient, empathetic and adaptable approach
  • Understanding of safeguarding, wellbeing and SEND best practice
