Long Term Futures is currently seeking an enthusiastic and energetic Sports Coach to join a vibrant secondary school in the London Borough of Newham. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual who is passionate about sport, physical education, and supporting young people to develop confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a positive attitude towards learning.

Working closely with the PE department and wider pastoral team, you will support students across Key Stages 3 and 4 through sports coaching, physical activities, and targeted interventions. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting student engagement, behaviour, attendance, and overall well-being through the power of sport and positive role modelling.

Key Duties:

  • Delivering engaging sports coaching sessions and supporting PE lessons across a range of sports and activities.
  • Leading small-group and one-to-one interventions to improve student participation, confidence, and behaviour.
  • Acting as a positive role model and mentor for students across the school.
  • Supporting pupils who may be disengaged from learning, helping them develop self-discipline, teamwork, and resilience.
  • Assisting with extracurricular sports clubs, fixtures, competitions, and enrichment activities.
  • Promoting positive behaviour and supporting the implementation of behaviour management strategies.
  • Encouraging participation in physical activity and healthy lifestyles.
  • Monitoring and recording student progress, engagement, and behavioural outcomes.
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral staff, SEN teams, and parents to support student development.
  • Contributing to a safe, inclusive, and supportive school environment.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Sports Coach, PE Teaching Assistant, Youth Worker, Sports Instructor, or in a similar role supporting young people.
  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and supporting young people within an educational setting.
  • Experience delivering sports sessions, coaching programmes, or physical activities to children or young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and confidence working with secondary-aged students.
  • A proactive, enthusiastic, and adaptable approach to supporting pupils.
  • A genuine passion for sport, education, and helping young people achieve their potential.
  • Relevant coaching qualifications are desirable but not essential.
  • An Enhanced DBS registered (Child Workforce) on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
