Long Term Futures is looking to recruit an adaptable, energetic person to take on the role of SEN Teaching Assistant/Specialist Teaching Staff to work in a small, tight‑knit Special Educational Needs School. Whilst delivering a high standard of bespoke education to students is of the utmost importance, identifying areas for improvement and flexibility is key. This is a fantastic opportunity for somebody who has experienced working with children or young adults with additional needs.

About the Role

Whilst working closely with Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will work across the school and spend time working on a 1‑2‑1 basis with several students throughout your week. Your duties will include:

  • Delivering bespoke learning, based on the abilities of the student
  • Building trusting relationships with students and staff
  • Following strict safeguarding policies and procedures, and reporting any incidents to the DSL (Designated Safeguarding Lead)
  • Identifying behavioural issues and other moments where students may need to use another part of the school to regulate their emotions
  • Setting clear expectations, using positive reinforcement and following structured routines
  • Relaying information to other members of staff, as well as to parents/carers

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Previous school experience is NOT necessary. Support/care workers are desirable
  • Experience, professionally or personally, with children or adults with learning disabilities and/or challenging behaviours
  • The ability and willingness to undertake initial full training and CPD as you progress
  • You must be engaging and energetic, but be able to come down to a calm level at the drop of a hat, where necessary
  • The willingness to carry out personal care, where needed, is very important
  • Reliability and punctuality are a must - Lateness and not turning up will result in termination
  • Psychology graduates are desirable
  • A UK Driving License and car is ESSENTIAL
