Long Term Futures is seeking a calm, confident and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 behaviour support for a Year 3 pupil with significant social, emotional and behavioural needs in a welcoming primary school in Islington. This role requires someone with positive handling experience who can respond confidently, safely and consistently to dysregulation while maintaining a nurturing and child-centred approach. This is a hands-on role for someone who understands that behaviour is communication and can support a pupil to feel safe, regulated and ready to learn.
About the Role
- Providing consistent 1:1 SEMH and behaviour support across the school day
- Using positive handling strategies when required, in line with school policy
- Supporting emotional regulation using calm, trauma-informed approaches
- Helping the pupil manage routines, transitions and classroom expectations
- Acting as a safe, trusted adult and positive role model
- Supporting re-engagement with learning following incidents
- Feeding back to staff to ensure consistency and progress
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or challenging behaviour
- Positive handling / physical intervention experience (essential)
- Calm, confident and able to remain regulated under pressure
- Strong de-escalation and behaviour management skills
- Reliable, proactive and committed to a long-term role
