The Opportunity:
Long Term Futures are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist provision in Quorn (LE12), supporting primary-aged pupils with specific Communication and Interaction (C&I) needs. Many pupils are non-verbal and require additional support with communication, sensory regulation, and social interaction. Working within one of two specialist classes, you will help pupils access learning through a highly personalised and nurturing approach, using visual communication strategies including pictures, symbols, and other alternative methods alongside spoken language.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide tailored 1:1 and small group support for primary-aged pupils with Communication and Interaction needs
- Support non-verbal pupils using pictures, symbols, visual prompts, and other communication strategies
- Work alongside teachers, Occupational Therapists, and specialist staff to provide consistent communication and learning support
- Help pupils manage sensory overload, social stress, emotional regulation, and transitions throughout the school day
- Support pupils to access personalised learning activities while developing communication, independence, and confidence
- Build positive and trusting relationships while maintaining a calm, structured, and nurturing learning environment
Who We're Looking For:
- Level 3 qualification is preferred, with relevant experience supporting children with SEND or Communication and Interaction needs
- Experience supporting non-verbal pupils, Autism, communication difficulties, or sensory needs would be highly advantageous
- Confident using visual communication strategies such as pictures, symbols, or communication aids
- A calm, patient, resilient, and nurturing approach with the ability to respond to individual sensory and emotional needs
- Knowledge of Makaton, BSL, or other forms of sign-supported communication would be advantageous but is not essential
- A clear commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and improving outcomes for children with additional needs
