Long Term Futures is seeking a patient, nurturing and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a non-verbal pupil in EYFS within a supportive Barnet primary school. This is a highly rewarding role, ideal for someone with experience supporting non-verbal children with ASD or communication needs, who understands the importance of routine, consistency and alternative communication strategies in early years development.
About the Role
- Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo and external professionals, your responsibilities will include:
- Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a non-verbal pupil
- Supporting communication using visual aids, PECS, Makaton or similar strategies
- Encouraging engagement through play-based learning and structured activities
- Supporting sensory needs and emotional regulation throughout the day
- Assisting with transitions and maintaining clear, consistent routines
- Promoting social interaction, confidence and early development skills
- Working collaboratively with staff to implement personalised support plans
This role requires someone calm, consistent and confident supporting pupils with high communication needs in an EYFS setting.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Experience supporting non-verbal pupils or ASD in EYFS (essential)
- Understanding of SALT strategies, communication tools and sensory needs
- Patient, nurturing and able to build strong relationships
- Confident working in an early years environment
- Reliable and committed to a long-term role
