SEN Teaching Assistant - EYFS (Non-Verbal ASD 1:1 Support) Barnet, NW9 (commutable from Colindale, Burnt Oak, Hendon, Edgware, Mill Hill)

105-115 per day

Start Date: ASAP

Contract: Full-time, long-term temporary

Long Term Futures is seeking a patient, nurturing and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a non-verbal pupil in EYFS within a supportive Barnet primary school. This is a highly rewarding role, ideal for someone with experience supporting non-verbal children with ASD or communication needs, who understands the importance of routine, consistency and alternative communication strategies in early years development.

About the Role

  • Working closely with the class teacher, SENCo and external professionals, your responsibilities will include:
  • Providing dedicated 1:1 support for a non-verbal pupil
  • Supporting communication using visual aids, PECS, Makaton or similar strategies
  • Encouraging engagement through play-based learning and structured activities
  • Supporting sensory needs and emotional regulation throughout the day
  • Assisting with transitions and maintaining clear, consistent routines
  • Promoting social interaction, confidence and early development skills
  • Working collaboratively with staff to implement personalised support plans

This role requires someone calm, consistent and confident supporting pupils with high communication needs in an EYFS setting.

  • Experience supporting non-verbal pupils or ASD in EYFS (essential)
  • Understanding of SALT strategies, communication tools and sensory needs
  • Patient, nurturing and able to build strong relationships
