Long Term Futures are working in partnership with an Alternative Provision Trust in Chesterfield (S41) to appoint a dedicated Literacy Intervention Assistant to support pupils across KS3 and KS4. The provision supports learners with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, and barriers to mainstream education within a structured and nurturing environment. This role focuses on delivering targeted literacy, phonics, reading, and oracy interventions to help students re‑engage with learning, build confidence and improve outcomes. This is a highly rewarding long‑term opportunity with the potential to progress into a permanent role.

What You'll Do

  • Deliver targeted literacy and phonics interventions on a 1:1 and small group basis
  • Support pupils with reading, phonics, spelling, comprehension and oracy development
  • Monitor learner progress and adapt intervention strategies to meet individual needs
  • Build strong, positive relationships to encourage engagement and emotional regulation
  • Support the wider development of literacy resources and intervention programmes across the provision
  • Promote a positive culture of reading and literacy throughout the school
  • Work collaboratively with literacy leads, teaching staff and pastoral teams to support student progress

What We're Looking For

  • Experience delivering literacy or phonics interventions, ideally using Read Write Inc Fresh Start or similar programmes
  • Experience supporting pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs is highly desirable
  • A resilient, patient and adaptable approach to supporting young people
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
  • A genuine passion for helping students overcome barriers to learning
  • A valid driving licence and access to transport (mileage expenses included). This is mandatory.
