A well-established, nurturing Alternative Provision in Chesterfield is seeking a compassionate and resilient Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our dedicated team. We support young people who have been permanently excluded from mainstream secondary education, many with SEMH or additional behaviour needs, and our mission is to help every pupil re-engage with learning, rebuild confidence, and achieve lasting personal and academic growth.
What We're Looking For
- HLTA qualification or equivalent secondary school experience.
- Confident working with KS3 and KS4 pupils and delivering independent sessions.
- Strong classroom management and behaviour support skills.
- Flexible, resilient, and committed to helping every pupil succeed.
- A proactive team player with excellent communication skills.
- Candidate must be fully compliant – this includes a DBS on the update system, a UK driving licence and at least two references.
Role Responsibilities
- Deliver pre-planned lessons in line with the curriculum and school priorities.
- Lead targeted interventions for individuals and small groups to support learning.
- Promote positive behaviour, focus and engagement in lessons.
- Support learners with time-out and de-escalating techniques.
- Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and the pastoral team to support student development.
- Hold personal car and business insurance, as driving may be required for school-related duties such as Safe & Well checks at pupils’ homes.
