Long Branch Environmental Education Center is an educational organization located in the scenic Newfound Mountains of Buncombe County, approximately 18 miles northwest of Asheville, North Carolina. The center is dedicated to promoting environmental understanding and fostering a deep connection to nature. With its picturesque setting and commitment to sustainability, the center serves as a hub for learning about environmental stewardship and education.

Status: Part time (approximately 15 hours per week)

Compensation: $500/month stipend + private on-site housing

Position Overview

Long Branch Environmental Education Center (LBEEC) is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven leader to help shape the future of environmental education in our community. We are looking for someone who brings both experience and innovation; a leader who can build on our strong foundation while helping us grow into what’s next. The Education Director is a part-time position responsible for leading and growing our environmental education program. The position is responsible for group recruitment and retention as well as program quality and delivery.

Essential Functions

  • Oversee all operations of Environmental Education programs including but not limited to managing bookings and sales, program quality, and program evaluation.
  • Represent Long Branch at outreach opportunities including community gatherings and networking events.
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, ensure that all facilities, property, program areas, and equipment are maintained to a high standard.
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed and assist with special events and fundraising campaigns.
  • Assist with the care and maintenance of areas such as the orchards, gardens, and Community Center.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university specializing in Recreation Management, Outdoor Education, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years professional related experience.
  • Teaching, facilitating, and teambuilding experience preferred.
  • Strong experience in program design, development and evaluation.
  • Administrative experience; ability to communicate both verbally and in writing is essential.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • CPR/ First Aid Certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, work weekends, and evenings throughout the year.
