We have a dedicated team of people working across our various North London sites, making a positive difference to the environment and the local community. By processing household waste at our facility, we produce enough waste from energy to power 80,000 homes every year and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres.

About the role:

We are looking for a motivated and flexible individual to join our team within a busy Waste Operations environment. This role involves working at our Western Road Recycling Centre (RRC), supporting day-to-day site operations while ensuring health, safety, and environmental compliance. The role requires weekend working on a rota basis, basic IT skills, and a willingness to undertake relevant training, including mobile plant operation and First Aid.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance & Safety: Support the RRC Supervisor in ensuring compliance with Waste Management Permits, health and safety regulations, and safe site operations for both staff and public.
  • Site Inspections & Reporting: Conduct daily inspections, report findings, complete operational reports (including fridge counts), and log incidents or issues using D365.
  • Team Supervision & Training: Supervise RRC staff and subcontractors, manage rotas and staffing levels, in the absence of the Site Supervisor.
  • Operational Efficiency: Oversee vehicle and mobile plant operations, ensure cost-effective use of resources, and carry out basic maintenance tasks where appropriate.
  • Site Maintenance & Cleanliness: Maintain cleanliness across all site areas, manage repairs, and ensure maintenance of static and mobile plant per guidelines.
  • Waste Management & Recycling: Manage bin exchanges, monitor weights to achieve max tonnage, and contribute to recycling initiatives and business improvements.
  • Customer Service & Communication: Handle public interactions courteously and ensure clear communication of site rules and procedures to all stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Experience: Previous experience in a waste operations environment.
  • People Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with the public.
  • Flexibility: Willingness to work across different RRC sites, including weekends, as per rota.

  • Qualifications: COTC and First Aid qualifications are desirable (or willingness to work towards them).
  • Plant Operation: Willingness to train for or currently working towards mobile plant competency certification.
  • Driving: Driving license desirable and willingness to drive the company reuse van if required.
