LondonEnergy operates the second largest waste contract in the UK, handling and processing nearly 750,000 tonnes of London's waste every year. We have a dedicated team of people working across our various North London sites, making a positive difference to the environment and the local community. By processing household waste at our facility, we produce enough waste from energy to power 80,000 homes every year and recycle 70% of items through our Reuse and Recycling Centres.
Under the guidance of the Environment Manager and HSE Team, the successful candidate will advise, document and proactively support all aspects of environmental compliance across LondonEnergy Ltd. and its subsidiary contractor sites. This is a 6-month fixed-term role with a likelihood of leading to a permanent position, ideal for an engineering or science graduate with 2-3 years' experience, seeking broader responsibility. The role focuses on ensuring permit and ISO compliance through data analysis, reporting, inspections and performance monitoring, working collaboratively across operational, legal and finance teams. It suits someone technically strong, confident with reporting systems such as PowerBI and Excel, relationship-focused and eager to develop within a supportive, forward-thinking environment.
Responsibilities:
- Provide expert environmental advice, guidance and inspection support to management.
- Liaise with employees and contractors to promote safe and compliant working practices.
- Prepare and submit environmental reports (quarterly, bi-annual, annual), including waste returns and regulatory submissions.
- Monitor company activities to ensure compliance with environmental permits, policies and legal requirements.
- Support environmental permit applications, variations and surrenders.
- Conduct site inspections and investigations, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
- Review and improve environmental policies, systems and processes, ensuring compliance with audits, regulatory requirements and Emissions Trading Scheme obligations.
Requirements:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Highly organised, methodical and able to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) with report-writing capability.
- Able to build effective working relationships across all levels and with external stakeholders.
- Solid knowledge of Health & Safety and environmental management within an operational setting.
- Experience conducting audits, inspections and compliance activities.
- NEBOSH qualified (or working towards) and degree educated in an engineering or environmental discipline; experience with D365 or similar HSQE systems desirable.
