You will join LondonEnergy as an E&I Technician with a focus on Distributed Control Systems (DCS), playing a key role in the safe and reliable operation of the Energy Centre. As the DCS Technician, you will be responsible for the ownership, operation, and ongoing performance of all DCS-related PLC and UPS systems across the site. This includes the implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of UPS systems and leading industrial control platforms such as Valmet, Siemens, Rockwell, and Mitsubishi. You will ensure all activities are carried out in line with company procedures, quality standards, and regulatory requirements, while also supporting the wider business by delivering preventative and corrective maintenance on electrical and instrumentation equipment as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform condition monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting, software updates, and calibration of control, UPS, communication, electrical, and instrumentation systems.
  • Administer control and communication system changes under Management of Change, ensuring password integrity and system compliance.
  • Manage spare parts and critical spares strategy, including procurement support and end-of-life planning for all associated systems.
  • Liaise with internal departments, service providers, vendors, contractors, and E&I teams to coordinate maintenance and projects safely and effectively.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs and improvements independently, safely, and within agreed timescales.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations, LEL procedures, safety rules, and CMMS requirements, including reporting and documentation.
  • Support training and supervision of staff and contractors, including inspections, audits, and continuous skills development.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Logical and systematic approach to fault-finding, with hands-on experience in electrical, control, installation, repair, and PPM activities within a heavy process or industrial environment.
  • Proven experience working in an industrial maintenance team, with DCS exposure (minimum 2 years preferred); power station or EfW experience is advantageous.
  • Strong technical knowledge of DCS, PLCs, UPS systems, communication protocols, and variable speed drives, with basic PLC fault-finding capability (Allen-Bradley, Valmet, Siemens, Mitsubishi).
  • Good understanding of instrumentation and process measurement, including pressure, temperature, level, and environmental analysers (NOx, SOx, HCl, pH, chlorine).
  • Flexible, accountable, and resilient, with the ability to work under pressure, respond to plant breakdowns, and participate in call-out, overtime, and out-of-hours work when required.
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise work, meet deadlines, and collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Relevant qualifications including NVQ Level 3 or trade certification; CompEx and LV Authorised Person status desirable, with the ability to work at height and in confined spaces.
