Description
Our people and customers are the heart of Woodrow. As a Swim Teacher you will join a professional, enthusiastic, and passionate leisure team that drives the success of our swimming operation. This role is part of a wider team that delivers first-class customer experiences for our guests, including outdoor learning operations, facilities and grounds maintenance, sales and marketing, housekeeping, finance and catering.

What you will be doing
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and customer focused swim teacher to join us. You will be working as part of a team of highly experienced teachers to develop swimming skills, technique and confidence in the water for our Swim School learners. You will lead safe, effective, meaningful and fun group and private lessons for adults and children of varying ages and abilities, including those with additional needs where relevant.
The ideal candidate has a passion for aquatics and teaching young people. You thrive on supporting your students to achieve their swimming potential, drawing on your knowledge and experience of industry best-practice, progression levels, and teaching skills that you will apply in the most effectual way. You have a working knowledge of swimming health and safety, as well as an understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures. You are friendly and patient, approachable, and have an ability to build trust, encourage and motivate your pupils.
Swim Teaching
- Deliver swimming lessons to the required scheme and appropriate level of swimmer, creating a fun and positive swimming experience that is motivating and encouraging.
- Develop swimming skills, monitoring performance, providing feedback, and assessing pupils in order to achieve relevant awards for the pupils to progress.
- Prepare and develop appropriate and inclusive lesson plans / schemes of work for each ability level that you teach, including those with additional needs.
- Support the development of swimming lessons and ideas for new activities.
- Ensure administrative tasks are carried out in accordance with your role.
Health and Safety
- Deliver swimming lessons in accordance with Woodrow’s operating procedures and appropriate National Governing Body guidelines.
- Ensure safe use of equipment during lessons, storing these tidily and securely at all times.
- Ensure the reporting of accidents, incidents and near misses are done in a timely manner.
- Ensure reporting of any hazards, damage or maintenance issues to the Duty Manager.
Undertake other duties as may be reasonably requested by London Youth’s management that ensure the operational success of the charity and delivery of excellent customer experiences.
What you bring to the role
Experience, Knowledge & Skills
- Working as a swimming teacher, delivering lessons to groups and/or private individuals.
- Working with a range of customers, including young people and adults, with different backgrounds and varying additional needs.
- Demonstrable understanding of safeguarding and health and safety best practice, and how this is applied in practice in swimming delivery.
- Experience using CoursePro, or similar swim school management system (desirable).
Qualifications
- Swim England Level 2 or STA Certificate in Teaching Swimming (Essential)
- Safety Award for Teachers, National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches, or a current National Pool Lifeguard Qualification (Desirable)
