Reporting To: Lead Ophthalmic Technician / Clinic Manager

Location: Harley Street, London, W1G.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week including a 1-hour lunch break; 5 days per week Monday-Saturday. Flexibility is required in line with clinic operational requirements. Typical shifts are between 08:00-18:00.

Job Purpose

The Ophthalmic Technician plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of outstanding patient care by performing a range of diagnostic tests, assisting clinicians during consultations, maintaining accurate patient records, and ensuring the smooth running of clinical services. The successful candidate will work closely with surgeons, optometrists, nurses, and clinic coordinators to provide a seamless patient experience while maintaining the highest standards of clinical accuracy, professionalism, and patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a wide range of ophthalmic diagnostic tests including: OCT scanning, Corneal topography, Biometry, Visual field testing, Pachymetry, and other diagnostic assessments as required.
  • Prepare patients for consultations and clinical examinations.
  • Accurately document clinical findings and consultation notes within the electronic patient record system.
  • Support the patient journey by providing clear explanations of tests and procedures.
  • Ensure all clinical equipment is maintained, calibrated, and prepared for use.
  • Adhere to all infection control, health and safety, and clinical governance requirements.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service and patient care at all times.
  • Ensure patients feel welcomed, informed, and supported throughout their visit.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with GDPR and data protection requirements.
  • Respond professionally and empathetically to patient enquiries and concerns.

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records.
  • Assist with clinic preparation and patient flow management.
  • Support clinicians with administrative and operational tasks where required.
  • Ensure clinical areas remain organised, professional, and fully stocked.

Person Specification

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Previous experience within ophthalmology, optometry, healthcare, or a clinical environment.
  • Experience using ophthalmic diagnostic equipment.
  • Knowledge of refractive surgery, cataract surgery, or private healthcare.
  • Optical Assistant, Ophthalmic Technician, Healthcare Assistant, or similar healthcare background.
