Requirements

  • Business level proficiency in the English language – written and verbal
  • Detailed knowledge of and experience with software development principles
  • Extensive experience delivering enterprise level software using Java
  • Extensive experience and understanding of OO, MVC, REST, Web API and Unit testing frameworks
  • Good knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL & DynamoDB experience is advantageous)
  • Expert practitioner of test-driven development, agile methodologies, and clean code programming
  • A good working knowledge of git (via Gitlab and/or Bitbucket), source code control and branching/merging practices
  • Willingness to learn and develop using multiple programming languages
  • (Desirable) Experience and understanding of HTML, JS, CSS, Typescript, Angular v8+, JS libraries, AWS
  • (Desirable) Experience with C#, .Net / .Net Core, IIS
  • (Desirable) A good working knowledge of other AWS cloud services (DynamoDB, Redis, CloudFront, etc)
  • (Desirable) Experience with Docker and/or other Container tooling (Kubernetes, Anthos, AWS ECTS)
  • (Desirable) Knowledge and experience designing and coding with AWS Lambda

What the job involves

We’re hiring a Senior Developer to join the Regulatory News Service team in London. For over 300 years, the London Stock Exchange has produced detailed market information for companies and investors. Technological innovations have transformed this service from a twice-weekly paper publication for the London business community to a continuous flow of electronic information to all the financial markets across the globe.

This role involves full lifecycle Agile development, including requirements analysis, estimation, design, coding, testing, and peer code reviews. You’ll contribute to service improvement initiatives alongside development and support tasks, and coordinate with a range of technology and business partners. The position also requires setting up and handling your development environment and supporting ad hoc duties aligned with team goals. Flexibility is important, as release and change management activities may occasionally occur outside standard regular working hours.

Act as a lead contributor for technical solutions within an agile team. Employ a range of techniques to analyze requirements and issues and evaluate multiple solutions against engineering, business & strategic criteria. Identify and resolve barriers to business deliveries implementing solutions which iteratively add customer value. Design solutions using common design patterns with a range of design tools & techniques. Conduct peer reviews to ensure designs are fit for purpose, extensible and re-usable. Design and build solutions which are secure and controlled. Complete the design of applications and perform code analysis and overall improvement of style and usability. Identify and implement improvements to code. Develop a deep understanding of our users, their needs, behaviours, nice-to-haves, and bring that insight into the heart of all aspects of project work. Communicate effectively with project partners to report on progress against agreed deliverables and raise any critical issues/blockers.
