Equity Engineering Lead, Index Operations in London

ROLE SUMMARY: FTSE Russell is seeking a hands-on dynamic software engineering lead (SME) to drive a team of software engineers building robust equity index capabilities and indexes. The candidate demonstrates an understanding of the index construction process or a significant market data knowledge, combined with a solid, global, previous experience in leading software development organizations. A strong functional knowledge of Market Data, Equity Index Set up and Management is mandatory for this role.

As the Equity Index Software Development Lead, you will be a hands-on lead also overseeing development of engineers to ensure solutions meet technical and business requirements. Your ability to act as a partner to the index product managers and contribute to solution designs, project estimations, assign the right people and create a can-do execution culture is an important aspect of the job and the culture we want to create.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

• Act as a thought partner to the Product organization, demonstrating execution drive, ability to be part of the solution, reaching the right trade-offs between acceptable scope, cost, implementation timing, but without compromising on the quality of the solutions delivered.
• Ensure indexes can be operated at scale and enforce operational excellence.
• Ensure solution designs are fit for purpose, delivered on time and on budget, and when necessary anticipate issues, delays and regroup the right teams and resources to find solutions.
• Build with purpose — solving real-world problems with measurable impact.
• Design, build, and scale our current index platforms.
• Develop efficient, and secure cloud-native architectures.
• Work with RDBMS systems and databases such as Sybase or SQL Server.
• Contribute to code reviews, mentor peers, and help shape a world-class engineering culture.
• Partner with global teams to define new solutions across cloud, data, and analytics.
• Ensure the Engineering organization embeds a test culture in the software development process with the design of automated and integrated test cases.
• Promote a culture of teamwork, high performance and quality via code reviews, ensuring standards and best practices are followed via agile methodologies.
• Communicate with clarity, precision, and influence, presenting complex information in a clear and concise format that is appropriate for the audience.
• Help in recruitment/setting up of teams through interviewing and identifying different skill sets required to deliver the project successfully.
• Drive Risk objectives - drive the remediation of platform risks - both functionally and technically.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

• Backend: C# .NET, SQL, APIs, microservices, Python.
• Frontend (Desirable): Angular, JavaScript, HTML5/CSS.
• Extensive Cloud Experience - AWS or Azure.
• Databases: SQL Server, Sybase, PostgreSQL.
• CI/CD: Jenkins, Terraform, GitLab, GitHub Actions.
• AI: Good understanding and implementation to drive efficiencies and optimisation.
• Index and Benchmarking experience with a strong understanding of market data.
• Experience in UI development for business-critical applications in Angular (8 and above), Java Script, HTML/CSS, C#.
• Experience in Cloud computing.
• Solid stakeholder management.
