Lead Data Architect — News Engineering

Lead data architecture for the real‑time News platform, delivering richly structured and searchable news to customers worldwide in sub‑second time.
Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the data architecture that powers the real‑time News platform.
- Lead end‑to‑end data architecture decisions for ingestion, enrichment, storage, indexing, and distribution of news.
- Develop data standards, schemas, and contracts for news content, metadata, and derived signals to ensure consistency and quality across the platform.
- Partner closely with engineering teams to improve signal discoverability through normalizing metadata and implementing industry standards.
- Ensure data architectures support observability, lineage, and a simple, straightforward experience for customers.
- Encourage pragmatic experimentation with new tools, libraries, and approaches to improve reliability, performance, or developer experience.
Qualifications
- Strong experience as a Data Architect or Technical Architect working with large‑scale, real‑time data systems.
- Deep expertise in data modeling and contract definition.
- Experience designing architectures for low‑latency, high‑throughput systems.
- Experience with streaming and event‑driven architectures.
- Familiarity with cloud‑native data platforms and distributed systems.
- Ability to work independently, lead through influence, and communicate ideas clearly.
- Bonus: Knowledge of news data standards such as News ML‑G2 or similar structured content formats.
- Bonus: Experience defining or implementing canonical data models.
- Bonus: Familiarity with data governance, lineage, or data quality frameworks.
- Bonus: Understanding of search technologies (e. g., Elasticsearch) and how data modeling impacts query performance.
- Bonus: Experience working closely with senior product and engineering leaders.
