Build the platforms that help shape how AI-assisted applications are evaluated across our organisation. We're looking for a Lead Software Engineer to design and develop scalable software solutions that enable the testing, evaluation, and continuous improvement of AI-powered products. Working at the intersection of software engineering, data science, and AI, you'll help create the technical foundations that support reliable, data-driven decision making across the organisation.
Our Lead Software Engineers are hands-on technical leaders who design, build, and evolve scalable software systems while providing technical leadership within their area of expertise. In this role, you'll work closely with software engineers and data scientists to develop platforms, services, and tooling that support AI application evaluation. You'll contribute across the software lifecycle, from solution design and architecture through implementation, deployment, and operation, while helping establish engineering standards that promote quality, maintainability, and the responsible use of AI.
You will:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable software solutions and services, primarily in Python, which measure the quality, reliability, performance, and safety of AI-assisted applications.
- Build reusable platforms, frameworks, and tooling that enable teams across the organisation to evaluate AI-assisted applications consistently and efficiently.
- Partner closely with data scientists and engineers to understand evaluation methodologies, translate requirements into technical solutions, and enable data-driven insights.
- Support deployment and operational activities within Azure, collaborating with DevOps and platform teams where appropriate.
- Own the technical direction, promote engineering best practices, mentor colleagues, and help raise technical standards across the team.
- Leverage AI-assisted development tools responsibly and effectively to improve productivity, software quality, and delivery outcomes.
Requirements:
- Strong professional experience developing production software, with significant experience in Python.
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles, including code quality, maintainability, security, and operational excellence.
- Experience building platforms, frameworks, or shared services that support multiple users or teams.
- Curiosity about AI technologies and a commitment to using AI tools responsibly and effectively within the software development lifecycle.
Desirable:
- Practical knowledge of DevOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, source control workflows, and application monitoring.
