Role Description

This senior leadership position in the FTSE Russell Technology team involves partnering with various business functions within the Index Business to understand their vision and lead engineering teams accordingly. The candidate will drive initiatives focused on operational tooling across multiple business processes, including index creation, management, reviews, and research. A solid understanding of both front-end and back-end architectures is essential.

The successful candidate will provide strong technology leadership across project delivery, ensuring high-quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with FTSE Russell customers, providing technology leadership, expertise, and mentorship to oversee software development including requirements gathering, business analysis, architecture, planning, and execution.
  • Design technical solutions involving user interfaces, back-end interactions, and process orchestrations, demonstrating end-to-end index lifecycle understanding.
  • Develop and implement platform roadmaps to support key index business initiatives.
  • Architect and coordinate the development of sophisticated front-end tools and back-end services.
  • Lead a team of engineers skilled in various stacks such as Angular, Java, Python, and SQL.
  • Implement multi-cloud solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure) to ensure infrastructure flexibility, scalability, and reliability.
  • Evaluate new technologies and industry trends to identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, best practices, and security requirements.
  • Foster collaboration with business analysts, product managers, and partners to align technology solutions with business objectives.
  • Manage project delivery, monitor progress, supervise KPIs, and report to senior management.

Skills

  • Leadership and Team Management: Over 10 years of experience leading global engineering teams, developing UI solutions involving process orchestration and back-end interactions.
  • Strategic Planning and Execution: Ability to build and execute comprehensive technology strategies aligned with long-term goals.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with multiple tech stacks, especially Angular, Java, Python, SQL, and familiarity with AI/ML, AWS services, and API development using GraphQL/REST.
  • IT Strategy and Ownership: Proven ability to analyze complex problems and develop innovative solutions to drive business value.
  • Quality Assurance: Ownership of software development and QA processes, ensuring high standards and industry best practices.
  • Modernisation & Data Applications: Knowledge in developing data-intensive applications using latest technologies.
  • Delivery Focus: Skilled in planning, organizing, and managing resources to meet outcomes within deadlines.
  • Change Management: Experienced in managing organizational change, transition, and transformation strategies.
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the financial indices and benchmarks domain.
  • Communication: Ability to convey technical information clearly and concisely to varied audiences.
  • Problem Solving: Skilled in problem definition, solution generation, and evaluation.
  • Customer & Third-Party Management: Building positive relationships with internal/external stakeholders and managing vendor relationships.
