Position Summary:

The LSEG Oil Research team is providing market insight, analysis and instantaneous access to clients interested in the crude oil and refined products markets by continuously monitoring and providing analysis on global supply and demand, trade flows, infrastructure outages, derivatives market and other financial activities. The analyst will have responsibility to develop and maintain Python-based models of crude and refined product supply and demand balances and price forecasts. Based in London, or Mumbai the role will focus on the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. The new joiner will also be involved in data collection and manipulation, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and assist in writing and publishing timely weekly and adhoc special reports. The candidate will also be required to develop PowerBI models and dashboards for distribution of model outputs, along with PowerPoint documents based on our research and datasets, and ultimately work with the senior analysts on building relationships with the various partners in the EMEA energy market. This is an excellent opportunity to join a market leading Research team in the oil markets to design and develop new methodologies, quantitative models and analysis, and enhance existing products and services.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for conducting primary and secondary research across the barrel, with a focus on building supply & demand models.
  • The analyst is encouraged to come with a strong analytics and modelling background either as part of a Research advisory organization or for an oil company.
  • Maintain daily interaction with a network of local and international oil market players to provide market insight for our clients.
  • Conduct research, prepare client-facing materials, and complete workflow to the required quality and within the designated timeframe.
  • Continuously maintain and improve core technical and analytical processes.
  • Support the business development process by preparing client presentations to showcase our capabilities and research to clients.

Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Economics, Mathematics/Statistics, Engineering or Petroleum studies from a reputable university.
  • A masters or technical specialization / certification would be advantageous.
  • Experience of at least 3-5 years in the physical oil markets or a research house, with an understanding of market fundamentals and the oil value chain.
  • Proficiency of Python to query, interrogate and build models using large data sets. Knowledge of machine learning techniques desirable.
  • Advanced skills in using the Microsoft suite of applications and visualization tools such as Power BI (or) Tableau.
  • Some understanding of financial markets, and their impact on the oil industry would be an advantage.
  • Able to conduct, analyze, and report primary research.
  • Ability to communicate market insights in clear and concise style through reports, presentations, and webinars.
  • Good critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, while completing work to required standard within the allocated timeframes.
