Our Air Traffic Services team play an essential part in maintaining the safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic at our airport. As an Air Traffic Control Assistant, you will provide support to the Air Traffic Control Officers on duty to maintain the effective running of the service. If you are successful in this role there may be opportunities to develop and train as an Air Traffic Control Officer in the future.

Day to day, you will:

  • Monitor and action ATC emails.
  • Answer and process the ATC telephones.
  • Process AFTN (Aeronautical Fixed Telecommunication Network) messages.
  • Complete movement logs.
  • Process the Flight Progress Strip.
  • Manage the bookings for circuit flights, instrument flight training and other flights.
  • Prepare and publish Meteorological Observations.
  • Act as a guide to visitors to the ATC Tower.
  • Embody the Airports ‘One Team’ culture and understand that there may be times when you are required to undertake other activities to support the needs of the business.

You understand that the Airport is in operation 24/7 so you may be scheduled and expected to work any shift during operating hours, including early mornings, late nights, weekends, and bank holidays.

To undertake this role, you need the following skills:

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • 5 GCSE’s at Grade 4 (C) or above, including Maths and English.
