Bramley Grange Academy is seeking to appoint a passionate and dedicated Outdoor Learning Mentor to join our committed and nurturing team. This is an exciting opportunity to support pupils through innovative, nature-based learning experiences that promote engagement, wellbeing, and personal development. The Outdoor Learning Mentor will play a key role in delivering high-quality outdoor education programmes tailored to meet the diverse needs of our pupils. You will use the outdoor environment to support learning, build resilience, and develop social and emotional skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for working outdoors throughout the year, supporting young people to engage in learning beyond the classroom.
  • Support the Outdoor Lead in planning and delivering outdoor activities, assisting young people to participate confidently and safely.
  • Provide cover in the absence of the Outdoor Lead, ensuring continuity of provision.
  • Support students across the school who may struggle to engage in learning, encouraging participation and promoting high expectations for behaviour.
  • Maintain order, promote a calm environment, and provide a consistent and visible staff presence.
  • Deliver personalised, time-limited intervention programmes to address barriers to learning and improve engagement.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and colleagues to manage behaviour and encourage positive decision-making in line with the school’s Behaviour Policy.
  • Develop and implement strategies that build pupils’ resilience and support them in overcoming challenges and personal difficulties.
  • Contribute to a whole-school restorative and solution-focused approach, supporting pupils to reflect on their behaviour and develop effective self-management strategies.
  • Accurately record behaviour and achievement data using agreed systems.
  • Attend daily briefings, debriefings, staff meetings, and training sessions as directed by the Head Teacher.
  • Create engaging and stimulating learning environments that broaden pupils’ experiences and develop new skills.
  • Undertake supervision during unstructured times in line with the school’s team ethos.
  • Follow procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and apply learning to practice.
  • Adhere to all school policies, including safeguarding, health and safety, and equal opportunities.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role, as directed by the Head Teacher.
