London South Bank University are excited to be recruiting for the post of Fees Collections Assistant to join our dedicated Fees and Collections team. The team plays a vital role in supporting the University’s financial sustainability by ensuring accurate billing and timely collection of tuition fees and related income. Their work underpins LSBU’s commitment to delivering an outstanding student experience and maintaining strong financial governance.

The Fees Collections Assistant will provide essential support in managing student fee accounts and will play a key role in credit control and debt recovery processes. This includes proactively contacting students and sponsors regarding overdue balances, negotiating payment arrangements, and escalating cases where necessary in line with University policy. The postholder will work collaboratively across departments to resolve account discrepancies, maintain accurate financial records, and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

This position offers the successful candidate the opportunity to develop expertise in debt collection and credit control within a higher education environment, managing sensitive financial conversations and supporting students through payment challenges. The role requires excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced setting. Experience in finance, credit control, or customer service is desirable, and a proactive attitude and willingness to learn are equally important.

About You

  • Experience in credit control and debt recovery, ideally within a finance or higher education environment.
  • Strong ability to manage student fee accounts, including negotiating payment plans and handling sensitive financial conversations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear and professional advice to students and sponsors.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail when working with financial data and systems.
  • Proficiency in using finance systems and Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.

The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, customer-focused, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of credit control processes, debt collection best practices, and relevant regulations is desirable. Previous experience in a similar role or in a finance/customer service setting will be an advantage.
