The Fire Alarm Engineer is responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance, fault finding, and repair of fire alarm systems to ensure compliance with current regulations, customer requirements, and company standards. The role involves working at customer sites to provide high-quality technical support while maintaining excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, and maintain fire alarm systems in commercial, industrial, and residential properties.
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) visits in accordance with scheduled service agreements.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults on fire alarm and life safety systems.
  • Conduct testing and inspection of fire alarm equipment to relevant standards.
  • Complete all service and maintenance documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Ensure all works comply with current fire safety legislation, British Standards, and company procedures.
  • Provide technical advice and support to customers regarding system operation and maintenance.
  • Attend emergency callouts and breakdowns as required.
  • Liaise with customers, office staff, and management to ensure effective communication of site works.
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, vehicle, and stock levels.
  • Identify opportunities for remedial works and system upgrades.
  • Follow Health & Safety procedures and conduct risk assessments when required.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Experience installing and servicing fire alarm systems.
  • Knowledge of conventional and addressable fire alarm systems.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair system faults efficiently.
  • Good understanding of BS 5839 standards and fire safety regulations.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Competent in completing electronic service reports and documentation.

Desirable

  • FIA (Fire Industry Association) qualifications.
  • Experience with manufacturers such as Advanced, Kentec, Gent, Morley, C-Tec, Notifier, and Apollo.
  • Knowledge of emergency lighting systems.
  • ECS, CSCS, or relevant industry cards.
  • IPAF or PASMA certification.

Working Conditions

Salary Range

Basic starting salary between 30-36k, plus monthly commission scheme with OTE potential of between 40-42k.
