The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is one of the world’s leading public health universities. Our mission is to improve health and health equity in the UK and worldwide; working in partnership to achieve excellence in public and global health research, education and translation of knowledge into policy and practice.

The International Centre for Eye Health (ICEH) at LSHTM is seeking an experienced and dynamic Operations Manager to lead the operational, financial and administrative management of a diverse £14m portfolio of global eye health research, education and capacity‑building projects. In this senior role, you will provide strategic oversight of complex multi‑partner programmes, manage high‑value budgets, and lead a Professional Services team of eight in a matrix structure. You will work closely with the ICEH Director and Leadership Team to drive strategic planning, support research development, strengthen operational systems, and maintain strong relationships with funders, collaborators, and stakeholders worldwide.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading, motivating and developing the ICEH Professional Services team.
  • Managing financial planning, forecasting and reporting across multiple major grants and programmes.
  • Overseeing project delivery, operations, systems and compliance with School, audit and funder requirements.
  • Supporting development of new funding proposals and business development opportunities.
  • Ensuring effective internal and external communication, including presentation of complex narrative and financial information.
  • Contributing to ICEH’s long‑term strategic planning, governance and operational excellence.

The successful candidate will bring strong leadership and operational management experience, a proven track record of managing large and complex budgets, and an understanding of international development or public/global health. You will be proactive, highly organised, and confident working in a fast‑paced, collaborative academic environment.

The post is fixed term until 31 December 2027 and full-time 35 hours per week, 1 FTE. The post is available from 13 April 2026. The salary will be on the LSHTM salary scale, Grade 7 in the range £53,317- £61,034 per annum pro rata (inclusive of London Weighting). The post is based in London. The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service. Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Wellbeing Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
