Salary

From £53,949 to £62,160 pa inclusive, with potential to progress to £69,073 pa inclusive of London allowance.

The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is one of the foremost social science universities in the world. LSE is a vibrant and cosmopolitan community in the heart of London, with a diverse staff and student body.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Finance Manager.

Reporting to the Research Accountant and Head of Research Awards, you will be responsible for leading a team to provide a comprehensive and high-quality finance and post‑award service, supporting our world‑renowned Research Centres to deliver cutting‑edge research and innovation projects. You will also be responsible for a range of tasks to assist in planning, monitoring, reporting and inform decision‑making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the finance and post‑award service team.
  • Plan, monitor and report on finance for research projects.
  • Provide finance and reporting support to research centres.
  • Assist in decision‑making through financial analysis.

Required Qualifications

  • A Degree or equivalent with a relevant professional financial/accounting qualification (e.g. ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA or CIPFA) or working towards qualification.
  • Extensive experience in financial management, preferably in a research or academic environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with proven ability to explain complex finance concepts and the implications of financial decisions to non‑specialists.
  • Strong analytical and IT skills, particularly in designing and using complex spreadsheets.
  • Superb interpersonal, people‑management and time‑management skills, with proven ability to influence others to achieve aims and evidence of successfully developing one's own team.
  • Experience of leading and managing significant projects and budgets.

Working Arrangements

LSE is a campus‑based university and staff are expected to attend the London campus in fulfilling their role. Most staff balance working from the campus and remotely. We therefore encourage applications from applicants who can routinely travel to the London campus.
