LSE Cities and the School of Public Policy are preparing to launch a new training and capacity building initiative to help metro mayors and their Mayoral Strategic Authorities (MSAs) accelerate progress and turn newly devolved and broader powers into tangible results for residents. The initiative sits within a wider programme supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, designed to strengthen institutional capability of MSAs in the context of the UK’s wider devolution agenda.
As a relatively new and expanding model of sub‑national government, many MSAs are in the process of establishing their structures and expertise. This three‑year programme responds directly to that need, offering a tailored executive education, coaching and consultancy for Mayors and senior officers, complemented by action‑oriented research and guidance. Delivered collaboratively by LSE Cities and the School of Public Policy, and in partnership with universities across England, the programme will be hosted both in London and within participating MSAs. In doing so, it will extend and complement the Bloomberg LSE European City Leadership Initiative while grounding learning in local context and practice.
Candidate qualifications:
- Ability to develop and lead, on a day‑to‑day basis, practical policy research projects, delivering outputs on time and on budget.
- Understanding of UK regional and local government and policy and challenges and opportunities facing MSAs.
- Ability to develop relations and work with a range of partners, clients and other stakeholders, including public sector policymakers and leaders.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to communicate with internal colleagues, external research partners, companies and investors.
We offer an occupational pension scheme, generous annual leave, hybrid working, and excellent training and development opportunities.
