The London School of Economics is a cosmopolitan university situated in the vibrant centre of London that specialises in the study of social sciences.

LSE’s Data and Technology Services division provides services to over 10,000 staff and student users.

ThePlatformsEngineeringLeadprovideshands-ontechnicalleadershipandday-to-dayoperationaloversightfortheSchool’splatforms and infrastructure services, includingcompute, storage,virtualisation,backupand cloud foundations. The roleis responsible forensuring these services are reliable, secure,scalableand well-run, while progressivelymodernisinghow theplatformestate is built andoperated.

The postholderis responsible forembedding automation, infrastructure-as-code, observability, platformreliabilityand continuous improvement, whilemaintainingthe stability,scalabilityand recoverability of a large, business-critical platform estate.Therole drives the adoption of reusable platform services, self-service capabilities andstandardisedengineering approaches that enable DTS and business-led technology teams to deliver andoperatesolutions more efficiently,whilemaintainingappropriate security,governanceandoperationalcontrols. Therolewillalsoleadtherest of the team by example and set high service,interactionand delivery standards.

Candidates should have:

  • Significant experience (minimum 5+ years) in platform engineering, infrastructure operations or cloud services, including responsibility for business-critical platform services, with evidence of technical leadership capability, mentoring, team coordination or delivery of complex initiatives.
  • Demonstrable technical leadership across platform domains including compute, virtualisation, storage, backup, identity services, cloud platforms and platform automation, with the ability to set technical direction and support the development of
  • Strong practical experience implementing automation, infrastructure-as-code and platform engineering approaches to improve consistency, reduce manual effort and enable scalable service delivery.
