The Global School of Sustainability (GSoS) is LSE\’s new flagship initiative to advance global efforts to shape a brighter future for all that is sustainable, resilient, hopeful, prosperous and inclusive. It brings together experts from across LSE to deliver interdisciplinary research, transformative teaching, and high-impact engagement.
This post sits within the Law, Politics and Governance Stream of the GSoS andis based at the LSE Law School and the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment. The Sustainability Regulation Observatory (SRO) sits within that stream. The post-holder is the Director of the Observatory and carries the title of Distinguished Policy Fellow.
The Director of the SRO will lead and shape the agenda of the SRO in utilising academic research to make a demonstrable contribution to society and the economy in the field of regulation. The post-holder will work across LSE\’s academic department and research centres to identify scholarship with high potential for impact with both private and public sector actors, and to harness and communicate this research to those actors, using the knowledge and experience to amplify the visibility of relevant LSE research.
The post-holder will lead the creation of a strategy, aims and objectives to deliver this mission at pace. The post-holder will create, lead and manage a team of research and policy officers and assistants to carry out this role, assigning work including the creation of journalistic pieces, blogs or policy briefings and other outputs as appropriate that provide impactful commentary and engage with UK or international policy audiences.
Candidates must have a d istinguished track record of policy engagement in sustainability regulation, through significant professional experience in the law, governance, or public policy, as well as demonstrated expertise in domestic and international law and regulation in at least one of the Sustainability Regulation Observatory (SRO)\’s priority areas. The proven ability to translate research into high-impact, policy-relevant outputs and communicate with public and private sector audiences is essential, as is the ability to lead large, interdisciplinary research initiatives and set strategic direction. Experience of managing and leading a team is also essential.
