Who we are

Part business, part charity, part membership body – students’ unions are seriously fun places to work. They are organisations in their own right. Professionally run, but different. Professional teams support elected student leaders to make change, improve lives and fulfil potential; we help make it happen. Founded in 1897, LSE Students' Union is one of the oldest Students' Unions in the UK and is the representative and campaigning body for students at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). Like other Students' Unions, it also funds and facilitates student activities on campus, including societies, sports clubs through the Athletics Union (AU), the Media Group and Raising and Giving (RAG) charitable fundraising initiatives.

About the job

We are currently looking for an enthusiastic supervisor to join our commercial team in the LSESU Bar Team. The LSESU Bars Team provides excellent service within the Saw Swee Hock building, including The Three Tuns Bar, the Venue, and a variety of event spaces. Our team serves LSE students, staff & alumni, as well as a wide variety of external clients. You will support the bar managers with day-to-day operations of the LSESU Bars (Tuns and Venue), ensuring that the bars are run in accordance with our policies and procedures, as well as Health and Safety standards. You will be a license holder, meaning you are responsible for the bars when managers are not present, including opening and closing duties. During opening hours, you will provide high quality customer service and maintain a strong working knowledge of our products and offerings. You will also be responsible for general upkeep of standards, implementing a strong work ethic on the team, and training and development of our student staff. Outside of the bars, you will occasionally be responsible for drinks service and event support as needed. Being the face of our Team, you will be expected to deliver positive and professional interactions with our customers and guests, meeting and exceeding their expectations.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a confident, approachable person who enjoys providing a high level of customer service and has a passion for entertainment and social activities. We want someone who is ambitious and ready to take a step up in your career. You will need good communication skills with the confidence to actively engage with customers, strong multi-tasking and organisational skills, and an ability to improvise and adapt on the fly, whilst also liaising with external and internal stakeholders. Attention to detail is a must, as is the willingness to work unsociable hours, including evenings and occasional weekends. You will need to have supervisory experience, with the ability to lead and motivate a team. Being a personal license holder is desirable, as we want someone with knowledge of licensing laws to comply with operating procedures.
