Overview of the role:
We are seeking an enthusiastic, detail-oriented apprentice to join our Governance Team as an Apprentice Governance Officer. This role provides a unique opportunity to learn about corporate governance and regulatory compliance within a not-for-profit housing association.
The successful candidate will support the team by preparing and administering meetings, maintaining statutory records, and assisting with compliance and governance processes. You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation to embed effective governance frameworks.
You will be engaged in meaningful responsibilities from day one, with support from a line manager and mentor to develop your skills. This role offers hands-on experience of good governance practices and their role in effective leadership and decision-making.
Strong organisational and communication skills are essential, along with a genuine interest in governance and regulation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with preparation, collation, and distribution of papers for Board and committee meetings.
- Supporting the maintenance of governance and statutory records, including filings with regulators such as the Regulator of Social Housing, FCA, Charities Commission, and Companies House.
- Coordinating annual governance processes like Board evaluations, declarations of interest, and reviews of Terms of Reference/Standing Orders.
- Providing administrative support for governance projects and daily tasks.
- Supporting internal communications related to governance policies and procedures.
Apprenticeship learning and support:
The programme will develop your skills in corporate governance, providing a foundation for careers in governance, policy, or compliance. Your manager will guide your development, and you will receive mentorship and practical experience from professionals.
Skills and experience required:
- Enthusiasm for governance, corporate responsibility, and L&Q’s work.
- Good attention to detail and willingness to learn.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise tasks.
- Confidence with IT systems, including Microsoft Office.
- Minimum 5 GCSEs including English and Maths, Grade C/4 or above.
