TWO BOARD MEMBERS (FOUR-YEAR TERM, REMUNERATED)

The LPFA are seeking two exceptional individuals to join the LPFA Board and its Committees, each bringing strong expertise in finance, investment, audit, and risk to help guide the Fund’s continued success.

As the largest Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) provider in London, our Fund was valued at approximately £8 billion as of March 2024. During an exciting time of change within the LGPS, we are committed to delivering a high-quality, cost-effective pension that benefits our roughly 100,000 members and 115 contributing employers, as well as London’s communities and society more broadly.

Although both new members will participate in all areas of the Boards business, we are seeking candidates with particular expertise in two areas.

Qualifications and experience

Board member 1 – investment focus

The successful candidate will have experience in investment and asset/liability management at a senior level. They will bring strong knowledge of institutional investment strategies, portfolio risk management, and asset allocation, particularly as they affect the pensions sector. Prior board or committee membership within the financial services sector is essential. Experience in overseeing investment governance frameworks and engagement with fund managers or asset owners would be advantageous.

This role will sit on the Investment Committee, contributing to the oversight of LPFA’s investment strategy, asset performance, and responsible investment approach.

Board member 2 – audit and risk focus

The successful candidate will have significant experience in finance, audit, and risk management at a senior level. They must demonstrate a strong understanding of pension fund governance, financial controls, risk frameworks, and regulatory compliance. Senior-level membership on financial services boards is required, with a proven track record in pension fund oversight, financial reporting, and risk management. Experience of oversight of pension fund administration would be an advantage. Knowledge of the LGPS would be advantageous but is not essential.

This role will sit on the Audit and Risk Committee, ensuring robust financial oversight, risk mitigation, and compliance with regulatory standards.

Remuneration

£17,000 per annum for approximately two days per month.
