Job summary

The post holder is responsible for providing financial management, support and advice, to designated divisions and directorates within the Trust. They will work closely with the relevant directorate managers to ensure financial targets are achieved. This will include production of accurate and timely budgets, monthly accounts and forecasts, investigation and advice on highly complex issues, provision of strategic financial and business planning advice.

The post holder will also ensure that the Head of Finance and the Head of Financial Management is fully informed of the financial performance and plans of the designated Directorates.

This is a senior post within the Finance Directorate and the post holder is expected to make a positive contribution to the overall objectives of the Directorate and the Trust, this will include training and coaching of finance and non-financial staff.

Main duties of the job

  1. Support the Divisional Head of Finance to provide high quality business advice and support to a Division as directed by the Head of Financial Management.
  2. Collate the numerical and statistical aspects of the directorate business plans including providing advice and guidance to managers in order to agree staffing models and constraints. These will be used to inform activity planning and financial planning.
  3. Provide information and support to budget holders and the divisional management team. This will involve complex calculations and the undertaking of investigations into financial/activity related issues and the occasional review of commercial related issues. The information/advice provided will be used to achieve demanding financial targets.
  4. Establish relationships with senior management and directors within the organisation, in order that regular and meaningful dialogue takes place, highlighting issues, risks and proposing mitigating actions.
  5. Investigate queries from budget holders and managers (typically from a non-financial background) relating to the charges made to the financial ledger, payroll transactions, invoices and payments, etc.
  6. Ensure that CIP programme for the division is embedded in the overall financial plan for the division and take responsibility for aspects of its delivery.
