An exciting opportunity for a substantive consultant post in the Gastroenterology service at St Mark’s National Bowel Hospital has arisen. We are looking for individuals with an interest in hepatology and liver disease and who may have an interest in ERCP but not essential. This is an excellent chance to work in a world renowned Centre of Excellence.

Main duties of the job

Duties will include:

  1. Liver outpatient clinics
  2. Endoscopy/Opportunity for ERCP
  3. Ward cover on a 1:5 rota
  4. Opportunity to work additional WLI’s to assist with reducing backlog and waiting times
  5. Opportunity for research

Our gastroenterology department is an internationally renowned centre of clinical excellence. The department has clinics at the Trust’s four hospitals – St Mark’s, Central Middlesex, Northwick Park and Ealing – and provides an extensive range of advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services. We see both local and nationally referred patients.

Essential

  1. MRCP
  2. Certification of Completion of Specialist Training
  3. Accreditation in general internal medicine and gastroenterology

Desirable

  1. Higher Degree

Registration

  1. On GMC registered Medical Practitioner
  2. GMC specialist registration or within 6 months of CCT

Knowledge and Expertise
Essential

  1. IT Skills and computer Literacy
  2. Experience in managing acute gastroenterology / general level II hepatology
  3. Skilled in clinical gastroenterology and endoscopic investigations

Desirable

  1. NHS experience within the last 3 years
  2. Interest in the development of out-patient management of liver disease
  3. General ERCP skills and or delivery
  4. Experience in service Redesign

Teaching
Essential

  1. Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, postgraduates and junior medical staff

Management and Audit

  1. Competent in medical audit
  2. An understanding of the Health Service agenda for the next 10 years and corporate governance

Desirable

  1. Evidence of management training.
  2. An understanding of techniques to improve efficiency and productivity of clinic processes

  1. Good track record of publications in gastroenterology / hepatology or a related field
