The post holder will be responsible for supporting senior staff in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care needs of children under supervision.
The department has 28 beds and cares for acute Paediatrics. It also includes a PAU, Day-care, and Outpatients. All staff are expected to rotate through all areas.
In the absence of a more senior staff member, the post holder may be required to coordinate the inpatient/HDU flow and supervise a shift.
The post holder will provide high-standard, direct nursing care to children and their families, acting as an effective communicator and liaising closely with all service users to promote the child\’s well-being.
Supervising and supporting junior qualified and unqualified staff, assisting their ongoing development, is a key part of this role.
The role also involves enhancing practice and meeting the clinical governance agenda of the department.
Clinical Responsibilities
- Be a caring, clinically competent registered children\’s nurse, prioritising patient safety and well-being.
- Assess patient care needs and develop, implement, and evaluate care programs for children and families.
- Prioritise patient care to maintain safe standards, practicing according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Scope of Practice.
- Participate in ward teaching programmes, including informal bedside and structured teaching.
- Plan discharge with the family early, liaising with the primary health care team.
- Adhere to all unit policies and procedures, acting promptly on any amendments.
