Job overview

We are pleased to advertise for a Consultant in Medical Oncology, with a special interest in Breast and AOS (Acute Oncology Service). This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and skilled consultant to join our supportive and collaborative team.
The successful applicant will hold continuous responsibility for the patients under their care and will be expected to undertake administrative duties related to patient care. You will play a key role in contributing to the ongoing development of the department, working closely with colleagues to innovate and deliver excellent care to our local population.
As part of your role, you will be expected to attend and actively contribute to the weekly multidisciplinary team meetings. You will also engage in continuing professional development, in line with the guidelines set by the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Annual appraisals and job plan reviews will be part of your responsibilities.
In addition, as a condition of employment, all employees must, as far as reasonably practicable, minimize the risk of infection to themselves, colleagues, patients, relatives, and visitors. You will be required to familiarize yourself with and adhere to Trust policies on infection prevention and control, including attendance at Trust induction programmes and completion of statutory education programmes related to infection prevention and control.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will manage clinics providing treatment and follow-up care to breast patients. They will actively participate in all aspects of clinical governance, making a significant contribution to multidisciplinary audits and risk management activities. The post holder will also contribute all required data to the audit programme and provide substantial support for NHSLA assessments. Additionally, the post holder will assist the Directorate Manager and Clinical Director in fulfilling the governance clinical lead role for the service, with a focus on patient safety and human factors training.

Administrative Responsibilities:

The post holder will undertake administrative duties related to the care of patients and the day-to-day operations of the department. They will also be responsible for general administrative tasks, ensuring compliance with Directorate and Trust objectives.

Research Responsibilities:

The Trust values and encourages research as a key aspect of its service delivery. The emphasis will be on studies that align with the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio.

Teaching Responsibilities:

The post holder will participate in the teaching of undergraduate medical students, particularly in the investigation and management of breast patients, be involved in the clinical supervision of junior medical staff and the teaching and training of other healthcare professionals.
