Substantive Microbiology Consultant: Full Time (10 PAs) London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust £105,504 - £139,882 Per annum plus London Weighting depending on experience plus currently 8% of salary as allowance for 1 in 4 'on call' duties.

Applications are invited for the Consultant in Medical Microbiology to work in our Trust. London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust is one of the largest integrated care Trusts in the country bringing together hospital and community services across the boroughs of Brent, Harrow and Ealing.

Main duties of the job:

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic and clinically focused Consultant with experience in clinical microbiology and antimicrobial stewardship in the UK.
  • The appointee will be responsible for antimicrobial stewardship at Ealing Hospital.
  • Applicants must be on the GMC Register at the time of interview.
  • Applications from candidates who, for personal reasons, are unable to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for this post.

Main responsibilities:

  • To work closely with the colleagues and the Infection Control Team in the management of patients.
  • To carry out duties assigned by senior colleagues.
  • To ensure that the process of producing the information contained in a Pathology report is carried out to the required professional standard.
  • To provide clinical advice to clinicians.
  • To enable and participate in clinical audit.
  • To participate in and contribute towards infection control matters including the Infection Control Committee meetings and Antibiotic Committee meetings.
  • To participate in appropriate teaching, training, and research and development stewardship.
  • To establish and maintain close liaison with all clinical departments within the hospital and to participate in meetings, ward rounds, audit etc as necessary to provide a high quality and effective clinical microbiology service.

Person specification:

  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • GMC registration - Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT/CSER), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
  • MRCP, MSc Medical Microbiology, MD, PhD or equivalent skills and experience.
  • Previous relevant experience of working in a clinical microbiology department in an NHS Hospital in the UK for at least one year.
  • IT Skills and computer literacy.
  • Broad based training in microbiology and virology and its subspecialties.
  • Broad based general professional training in general medicine.
  • NHS experience within the last 3 years.
